“Not just like that”: Lavrov believes that the United States artificially restricts the issuance of visas to Russians

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is convinced that Washington is artificially limiting the issuance of non-immigration visas to Russians. He expressed this opinion in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “now the American side, referring to the“ lack of personnel, ”artificially restricts the issuance of nonimmigrant visas” in the Russian Federation. However, Lavrov believes, “Washington is doing this for a reason, but in order to ‘bargain’ for itself unilateral concessions from Russia.”

At the same time, the minister recalled that Moscow, in contacts with the United States, constantly raises the question of the need to normalize the process of issuing visas.

Lavrov also believes that nothing prevents the American embassy in the Russian Federation from filling the quota of 455 employees and stabilizing the work of its consular service.

Earlier, since mid-May this year, the US Embassy in Moscow suspended the provision of all non-diplomatic non-immigration visa services, linking this with the earlier decision of the Russian authorities to ban the hiring of local and foreign personnel.

We also add that in November-December of the outgoing year, the world media filled the topic of the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions that should follow. According to the authors and experts of these publications, a sign of an “invasion” is the concentration of Russian military equipment in the regions bordering on Ukraine. Possible sanctions include both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and restrictions against Russian energy companies, and the shutdown of the SWIFT system of fast financial settlements.
