Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law extending the term for renouncing foreign citizenship or residence permits for civil servants. The law, published on the official Internet portal of legal information, applies not only to state and municipal employees, but also to the military.
According to the document, officials must renounce their foreign citizenship or residence permit in another country by January 1, 2023, otherwise they will lose their position.
Previously, this period was set until January 1, 2022.
Recall that in August, the head of state signed a decree according to which Russians with a passport of another country can enter the state or municipal service if they cannot renounce their foreign citizenship.
The day before, Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft basic law “On the Citizenship of the Russian Federation.” The document, in particular, expands the list of crimes for which deprivation of citizenship is provided. Now it is not only terrorism, but also a number of grave crimes against the state (for example, Article 282, according to which the oppositionists disliked by the authorities are accused, notes Znak.com) and drug crimes.
