The number of deaths from COVID in Russia in November again became a record – more than 87 thousand people. According to Rosstat data, this is almost 16% higher than the October figure, which until this moment remained the maximum since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the department, last month, covid became the main or presumably the main cause of death for more than 80 thousand Russians. In another 7.4 thousand who died in November, the coronavirus was recognized as a co-cause of death.

The Rosstat materials indicate that a sharp jump in mortality with coronavirus was recorded in October. Then 75.5 thousand people died who had COVID-19, but in November the figure jumped by more than 15%.

The statistics department also provides data on natural population decline. So, in January-November 2021, it reached 945.1 thousand people. This is 64% more than in the comparable period of 2020 (574.8 thousand).

Meanwhile, RBC specifies, even if the situation with the coronavirus improved in December, the natural loss rate for the entire year could reach 1 million people, and this will already be a record in the entire history of Russia since the early 1990s.

We also add that in January-November, 1 million 284 thousand 900 people were born, in the same period of 2020, 1 million 306 thousand 400 people were born. The number of deaths in January-November 2021 increased by 18.5% – to 2 million 230 thousand people from 1 million 881 thousand 200 in January-November 2020.

The resident population of Russia as of November 1, 2021 amounted to 145.7 million people, having decreased from the beginning of the year by 482.4 thousand people. Migration growth in January-October by 39.9% compensated for the natural decline in the population.
