President Vladimir Putin signed a law that introduces administrative liability for people with donation boxes in cases where such boxes were installed by a citizen or organization that did not have the right to do so.
These actions will be qualified as petty theft of someone else’s property – in Article 7.27 of the Administrative Code, where a special new part 3 appears.
The maximum punishment for citizens is administrative arrest for a period of 10 to 15 days or compulsory work for up to 120 hours. Also, the court will be able to limit itself to a fine of up to five times the cost of the stolen, but not less than 3 thousand rubles. For legal entities, the fine will be from 20 to 50 thousand rubles.
The new law also provides for real non-profit donors to be held liable for improper use of the box for collecting donations – for example, when the rules for extracting money from them are not followed. The Administrative Code will be supplemented with the corresponding new article 14.66, according to which the punishment for officials will be from 5 to 10 thousand rubles, for legal entities – from 10 to 30 thousand rubles.
