Playwright Grishkovets was elected chairman of the public council under the Federal Penitentiary Service and demands an “open investigation” of the torture of prisoners

Playwright, actor and screenwriter Yevgeny Grishkovets was elected chairman of the public council at the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia. His candidacy received unanimous approval.

Yevgeny Grishkovets is a supporter of harsh punishments for torture in prisons and, in his own words, knows the FSIN firsthand. “Everyone who participated in this should be punished, if people are convicted of serious crimes, this does not mean that they can be mocked,” he stressed, adding that the facts revealed in the correctional institutions of the Saratov region require “the most thorough, deep and open investigation “.

In the fall of this year, human rights activists published footage of the rape and beatings of prisoners that took place in correctional institutions in a number of Russian regions, including the Saratov region. Based on the results of these messages, criminal cases were initiated, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Duma and the Federation Council took control of the situation, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Alexei Kalashnikov, was dismissed.
