The Russians were told how to “clutter up” an apartment environmentally before the New Year

Traditionally, on the eve of the holidays, most Russians carry out a general cleaning of the apartment. In the capital’s housing and communal services department, they gave several tips on how to properly dispose of unnecessary things, which of them can be thrown away, and which can be sent for recycling or for charity.

Broken plastic containers for food or containers from which the lid was lost, plastic containers left over from ready-made food, plastic or tin lids from homemade products, glass jars that used to contain pickles – all these items can be safely sent to the secondary recycling into a blue container. “The main thing is that they are clean,” the department notes.

You can also throw old pots and pans that have already served their purpose in the recycling bin. “Glass cups, plates and salad bowls with cracks and chips should be thrown into the blue tank, but faience, porcelain and crystal are not recyclable, they are better placed in a gray container,” the department noted.

Old towels, potholders, aprons and other kitchen textiles are also not suitable for recycling, so they should be sent to the gray bin.

“It is not recommended to throw clothes and shoes into either the gray or the blue bin. Textiles are easily exposed to the slightest contamination even in a blue container and become unsuitable for industrial disposal, ”the department notes.

Experts advise getting rid of old clothes in other ways: sell on special sites, donate to charity, or exchange things and shoes with relatives and friends. Shoeboxes, however, can be thrown into the blue bin, since cardboard is recyclable and can be recycled.

“Paper bags from stores, sales receipts printed on paper, documents that are no longer useful, unnecessary instructions or expired warranty cards – all these items are junk and recyclable. Therefore, they must be thrown into the blue container. You can also send there magazines, newspapers and paperback books that have already lost their presentation, ”the department noted.

But ordinary cashier’s checks are not recycled, as are photographs, laminated paper and candy wrappers. Such waste should be disposed of in a gray bin.

“Cosmetics that have reached their expiration date will also have to be sent to a mixed waste container, since most of the cosmetics are not recyclable. For example, packages for mascara, lipstick, powder and eyeshadow are made up of composite materials that are almost impossible to separate. When it comes to shampoos, hair conditioners, shower gels – read the label on the packaging to know how to properly dispose of it after the product runs out, ”the department recommends.

If the cosmetics are not expired, but you have never used them and are not going to, you can donate them to friends, relatives or colleagues.
