Netflix will be obliged to broadcast 20 Russian channels, including Russia-1, Spas and Zvezda

Netflix, after being entered into the register of audiovisual services, is to distribute 20 Russian federal TV channels of the first and second multiplex. As the head of the Internet Video Association Alexei Byrdin explained to TASS, the norm will come into force in March 2022.

A Russian legal entity should act as the owner of the audiovisual service, while the owners of foreign video services can control no more than 20% of the authorized capital of such a legal entity. To comply with Russian law, Netflix Inc. within two months he is obliged to open a legal entity in Russia, find a partner for 80% of the share of this company, or, if he wants to retain 100 percent control, apply to a special government commission for permission.

Netflix will also be required to use software from either an authorized organization or its own proprietary software, but at the same time modify it to meet the requirements of Roskomnadzor. To organize the broadcast of the first, second multiplex, it is necessary to use software products included in the register of domestic software.

In total, the register of Roskomnadzor audiovisual services includes more than 20 platforms, including Okko, Kion, Premier, Megogo, Start, Wink and others. A number of foreign resources can be included in the registry following Netflix: Apple TV +, Google Play, Crunchyroll and others.
