Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden will hold telephone talks.
“Indeed, a telephone conversation between Putin and the President of the United States is scheduled for tomorrow late in the evening,” Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, confirmed to TASS.
Earlier, Biden did not rule out a possible personal meeting with Putin in January 2022. He replied: “We’ll see.”
Earlier, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that talks between Moscow and Washington on security guarantees would take place on January 10.
We will remind, earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements with NATO and the United States on security guarantees. Among other things, they contained a demand to abandon NATO’s eastward expansion and not to include Ukraine in the organization.
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, commenting on the desire of Moscow and Washington to hold a meeting in January, said that the negotiations would make sense if they are held in close coordination and with the participation of the EU.
Prior to that, he called unacceptable the conditions put forward by Moscow along with its calls for security guarantees and non-expansion of NATO to the east. Borrell stressed that the right of any state to decide for itself whether or not to join any alliances cannot become a subject of discussion.
