In Yakutsk, after the death of a woman scientist, who was bitten by stray dogs, a high alert mode was introduced

The tragic death of Sardana Sleptsova, associate professor of the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU), who was bitten by stray dogs, led to the introduction of an emergency regime on the territory of the Yakutsk Highway District and a high alert regime in the city as a whole. This was announced by the mayor of Yakutsk, Yevgeny Grigoriev, stressing that “all available equipment” and “the maximum number of people from all structural divisions and enterprises of the mayor’s office” will be aimed at catching a dangerous flock.

This attack, which became known on December 29, is not the first tragedy involving stray dogs in recent months, both in Yakutsk and in other Russian cities and regions. At the end of November, a video appeared on Yakut social networks in which an elderly woman fought off stray dogs with a bag. This happened near the hippodrome of the Arctic State Agrotechnological University (AGATU), where Sardana Sleptsova died. The townspeople complained about a flock of about 15 aggressive dogs, and AGATU employees, starting from September this year, wrote applications to the city authorities and animal overexposure points with a request to catch the dogs.
