The creator of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov and the founder of the online retailer Wildberries Tatyana Bakalchuk were at the top of the rating of Russian billionaires who became the richest in 2021, Forbes states.
As the newspaper notes, 2021, the second year of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic, can be called successful by the majority of Russian billionaires: according to Forbes, 70 out of 104 Russian participants in the global ranking of the richest people in the world have increased their fortunes. In total, in a year, domestic billionaires grew rich by $ 101.39 billion (up to $ 576.72 billion), while the 10 most successful of them added $ 74.51 billion.
Representatives of the “new economy” – Pavel Durov and Tatiana Bakalchuk – climbed to the top of this list. In March 2021, the Telegram messenger placed its own bonds for the first time and raised $ 1 billion on the market, which made it possible to increase the assessment of the messenger’s founder’s fortune. The growth of Wildberries’ value was facilitated by the successful listing of its main competitors Ozon.
The third position of the rating was taken by the industrialist Andrey Melnichenko, whose assets significantly increased their revenue last year, and the fourth and fifth places were occupied by metallurgist Alexey Mordashov and oil worker Vagit Alekperov.
In general, the publication points out, the growth in the value of the fortunes of the most successful members of the Russian Forbes list in the outgoing year was due to the problems of Meta (Facebook), the explosive growth of Internet commerce, record profitability of metallurgists and soaring oil and gas prices.
