Seven destinations in the new route of the Guayas School Ship

145 crew members from different parts of the country participate in the 33rd voyage. The President of the Republic participated in the ceremony.

Ports of Curaçao, Panama, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru are part of the new international training cruise of the emblematic Guayas School Ship.

The flagship of the Navy was fired this Tuesday in a ceremony attended by President Guillermo Lasso, who expressed support for the members that make up the entity.

Named Velas Latinoamérica 2022, the cruise departs with 145 crew members (men and women). It is the 33rd voyage of this ship.

“You carry as luggage the value that characterizes you, but also the image of the new Ecuador of the Encounter that is opening up to the world,” said the president, who received military honors at the ceremony held in southern Guayaquil.

The cruise constitutes a learning phase for the crew, who come from different parts of the country.

The first president highlighted the presence of this ship in the celebration of the bicentennial of the independence of Brazil. He said it is a worthy representation of the country.

Lasso had the opportunity to tour the boat.

Brumel Vázquez Bermúdez, commander of the Navy, said that this journey “serves to temper the maritime spirit and the particularities of each port visited.”

Since its arrival in the 1970s, the BAE has traveled some 555,000 nautical miles.

Vázquez said that the cruise will last about five months through the countries on the route. It is expected to cover 14,200 nautical miles.

After this, the incorporation of two midshipman promotions is expected.

The president predicted a promising 2022 for the travelers of the National Navy. The sailors will say goodbye in 2021 in the by sea.

“It is an honor to accompany you today and wish you that the 33rd voyage of Ecuador’s flagship is in the midst of a warm sun, good weather and calm sea (…). I wish you that the coming year will be full of personal and professional successes, ”he said. (I)
