During the Christmas holiday, only 566 doses against COVID-19 were applied in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
More than 333,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have been applied to the portovejense population during eight months of work by the authorities in the capital of Manabi.
The municipal contribution and the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) generated that these doses were applied in the facilities of the old Reales Tamarindos airport, brigades in the territory, vaccination centers of the rural parishes Abdón Calderón and San Plácido, totaling 177,958 first doses and 155,766 second doses applied.
These doses were applied from April to December 22, according to the data shown by the MSP in conjunction with the Municipality of Portoviejo.
This human team, according to Freddy Saldarriaga, cantonal director of Social Development of the Municipality of Portoviejo, has worked long hours, weekends and on holidays to advance more quickly with vaccination.
“From the beginning we set the goal of having a high-level vaccination center, agile and that has allowed us to serve the population in the shortest possible time,” said Saldarriaga.
It is estimated that the municipal vaccination centers immunized seven out of ten portovejenses who have already applied the doses against the coronavirus. In the canton, in the population over 5 years of age, eight out of ten portovejenses already have a dose.

While in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, during the Christmas holidays, the absenteeism of about 90% of the 6,000 people expected to be immunized was evidenced. Only 566 were applied, according to the report delivered on Monday by the Government.
Regarding hospitalization, it was reported that in this province the intensive care units for COVID-19 patients present 100% occupancy, with a waiting list of three people, while the hospitalization area presents 86% occupancy .
