On Monday, 175 new internal cases of coronavirus infection were detected in China’s Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province, the State Health Committee of the People’s Republic of China said.
On the Saturday before that, 155 such cases were recorded, on Sunday – 150.
At the same time, strict restrictive measures are in force in the city: all flights have been canceled, the movement of ground intercity transport is limited. Residents of the city are forbidden to leave their homes except in urgent cases, and one person in the family must go to buy food and essential goods and no more than once every two days.
It is not said what strain of the virus was found in the city. Only seven cases of omicron infection, which is actively spreading in the world, have been officially confirmed in China so far.
It is also reported that 26 officials in Xi’an have been punished for poor performance in the prevention and control of coronavirus. The Chinese authorities are concerned about the spread of infection in the country against the backdrop of the approaching Winter Olympics, which is to be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20, 2022.
