“It was coming too fast, we felt it veered and fell on the side we were coming from (left). Fortunately, thank God, nothing happened to me, I just have a few scratches, ”said Carreño, recalling the accident.
Four people died and seventeen injured were left by the accident of the Amazonas cooperative bus, with plate TAA-4854, which was registered on Sunday afternoon, at the U de Chambag, Pelileo canton. The unit covered the Cuenca-Baños de Agua Santa route.
Andrea González, zonal coordinator 3 for Health, indicated that the seventeen wounded were treated with different traumas, nine at the Ambato General Teaching Hospital. Of these, four are in critical condition.
In addition, three patients were transferred to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute and the others to hospitals in Baños and Pelileo.
The governor of Tungurahua, Fernando Gavilanes, indicated that the bus crashed because it apparently lost track due to speeding.
Gavilanes called on people who use the public passenger transport service to report to ECU-911 when it is seen that drivers are speeding, in order for the National Police to act before accidents happen .
The official promised to be aware of the investigations that are carried out in order to establish the responsibilities and adopt the resolutions that are pertinent in this type of cases.
Colonel Marco Muñoz, commander of Subzone 18 of the National Police in Tungurahua, regretted that on the Christmas holiday six traffic accidents had to be dealt with in different sectors of the province.
