Around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday 26, the lifeless body of José Salas Camacaro, 36, was found, who on the afternoon of Saturday 25 was dragged by the current of the Jubones River, located in the La Iberia parish, jurisdiction of the canton The Guabo.

Minutes earlier, Salas had managed to rescue a child under the age of six who was drowning.

“My husband observed that the boy was drowning and went to rescue him. They managed to get the minor out, but we realized that he was being carried away by the current of the river. Although we asked for help, we could not get him out of the water and he disappeared into the water, “said Maylin Sánchez, the victim’s wife.

Salas, along with his wife and three children, arrived in Ecuador less than a week ago from Lima (Peru). Their final destination was Venezuela, where they are from.

“In each city we stop to get money. He even told me on Friday that he wanted to go and die in his land ”, the woman commented through tears.

The search for the body began Saturday afternoon. Finally, the body was found about two kilometers downstream.

“It is a very dangerous tributary; Some people have died here, because the current carries them away, ”said Mauricio Mora, from the El Guabo Canton Fire Department.

In the search tasks, firefighters from Machala, divers from the Marine Infantry and community members from La Iberia parish also participated. After the removal of the body, the transfer was made to the Machala Forensic Center.

Several people organized a collection to provide financial assistance to the victim’s relatives. They asked the national authorities to expedite the procedures for the repatriation of the body of the Venezuelan citizen. (I)
