Cravings for sweets and salty can signal serious health problems.

Craving for sweet and salty can indicate pathological conditions of the body, said therapist-gastroenterologist Elena Tyulpina.

For example, sugar cravings can be caused by eating disorders, such as protein deficiency. But more serious deviations are also possible – dysbacteriosis, a violation of the intestinal microflora, even the growth of a certain type of fungus in the gastrointestinal tract – candidiasis, for each of these conditions the body will require sugar. Even with a deficiency of chromium, vanadium or magnesium, it can pull for sweets, the specialist noted in a commentary on Channel Five.

If you do not consult a doctor in time, then it is quite possible the development of more serious diseases – insulin resistance, obesity, diabetes mellitus and other pathological conditions, warns Elena Tyulpina.

Salty cravings, on the other hand, signal the consumption of too much salt throughout the day, leading to receptor dullness and dehydration. “If we do not drink enough water, and our body needs this water to ensure its biochemical processes, it may require salt, because salt retains fluid in the body, does not allow it to go away,” the doctor explained.

The desire to eat salty arises in diseases of the adrenal glands. The body’s production of cortisol decreases. In this case, specialist advice is required.
