Ukraine cannot provide gas from sources alternative to Russia. This was stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by the head of the Naftogaz company Yuriy Vitrenko.
“Physically, ships with LNG (liquefied natural gas) cannot enter Ukraine. And even from a terminal in Poland, regasified LNG cannot physically enter Ukraine through pipes, ”Vitrenko said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
The head of Naftogaz added that for this in Poland it is necessary to modernize the gas pipeline system.
“If we want to resolve the issue of physical security and diversification of physical security, then this is the issue of our own LNG terminal. He rests against the passage through the Bosphorus so far. Turkey does not allow LNG tankers to cross the Bosphorus, ”he added.
Vitrenko admitted that if there is a new Istanbul canal, it is possible that tankers will be passed through this canal.
“This is not the case yet,” he concluded.
Earlier, the director of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, said that Russia would begin negotiations on the extension of the transit of a contract for the transit of natural gas through Ukraine as soon as it became known in what volumes and on what conditions this gas would be purchased.
