Antique measures taken by the Thai authorities have contributed to the increase in the number of sea turtles. Local media, referring to the Phuket Marine Biological Center, write that due to antique restrictions, which led to the absence of tourists on the beaches, turtles began to lay a record number of eggs. Also, the absence of tourists has improved the condition of sea water – there is less pollution. The lack of sightseeing boats has also proven to be very beneficial for the turtles, as has the turning off of tourist advertising lights at night.
Thanks to all this, turtles have become much better at breeding in the last couple of years. The exact numbers have not been reported, however, from the fall of 2020 to February 2021, ecologists found 18 leatherback turtles (loot) nests on the beaches of Phuket. These turtles can grow up to 400 kg.
Also, due to the lack of tourists, turtles returned to Thailand, which have not been seen here for decades. These are olive turtles.
