Russian President Vladimir Putin said that this morning the military launched a salvo launch of the Zircon hypersonic system. According to him, TASS reports, the tests were carried out “successfully and flawlessly.”
“This is a great event in the life of the country and a significant step in improving the security of Russia, in increasing its defense capability,” Putin stressed.
Putin also congratulated the teams that worked on the Zircon system, expressing “the most sincere words of gratitude.”
Recall that in November, Putin said that a sea-based hypersonic missile would be put into service in Russia early next year. According to him, Russia was forced to start developing hypersonic weapons in response to the actions of NATO, the infrastructure of which “approached” the Russian borders.
Earlier, Russia tested the Zircon missile from a submarine for the first time. The tests took place in the Barents Sea. The launch was carried out from the nuclear submarine “Severodvinsk” and was successful, the Ministry of Defense specified.
