Decorative pillows, home furnishings with the symbol of the year and home perfume are the most useless gifts for the home for the New Year. Svetlana Kotlukova, head of the ArchDialogue agency, expressed this opinion in an interview with RIA Nedvizhimost.
She believes that the most common mistake when choosing a New Year’s gift is buying goods with the symbols of the coming year. These can be Christmas toys, candles, calendars, designer Christmas baked goods.
“If candles and sweet gifts can be burned and eaten on holidays, then decorative figures, table calendars, textiles, fridge magnets will clutter up the space and, most likely, will be donated over a long January weekend at a close meeting with friends,” Kotlukova said. …
According to her, an equally common mistake is to give decorative pillows, especially if such a present is planned to be given to unfamiliar people or to those who are visiting for the first time. Most likely, the gift will be radically different in color and style from the interior of the apartment and simply will not fit into the overall design, the expert explained.
Interesting, but only at first glance, is the option with home perfumery. Gifts include incense sticks, oils, and perfumes. Even though the gift can be expensive, the chances are high that the landlords will be allergic to this or that scent and will have to be thrown away.
In addition, according to Kotlukova, houseplants, mirrors and gift certificates for small amounts to small chain stores are not the best gifts.
Let us also recall that earlier Pavel Guzhikov, the founder and CEO of the fintech company Dengi Vperyod, in an interview with RIA Novosti, suggested how not to splurge on gifts for the New Year. According to him, Russians who want to please loved ones with New Year’s gifts and spend not too much should plan their budget in advance, look for lucrative cashback deals and avoid buying cosmetic kits, for which sellers make large markups before the holidays.
At the same time, the expert believes, it is not worth choosing holiday sets of perfumes or cosmetics as a gift for the New Year. “Just for such sets, retail chains make significant markups, and their content may not always be 100% suitable for the addressee,” explained Guzhikov.
