Cult writer and screenwriter of the famous film “A Star is Born” dies in New York

In New York, at the age of 87, the cult writer, playwright and screenwriter Joan Didion passed away.

As it saysT The New York Times, Didion died at her Manhattan home. The cause of death was Parkinson’s disease.

Recall that Didion became famous in the 1960s thanks to articles in Life, The Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times Magazine and Esquire. She wrote sarcastically about the Californian counterculture, Hollywood, American politics and the social chaos of that decade and became the star of New Journalism.

Among the novels and collections of essays, written by Didion, the books “Play as it was written”, “And wandered to Bethlehem”, “The last thing he wanted”, “White Album”. In 2005, the author’s bestselling memoir “The Year of Magical Thinking”, in which she told how she experienced grief after the death of her husband, writer John Gregory Dunn.

Didion also co-wrote several famous films with Dunn. These are “Panic in Needle Park”, “A Star is Born”, “Secrets of Confession” and “Play It As Written” (based on your own novel). The writer has been a recipient of the National Book Award for Nonfiction, Honorary Awards from the Writers Guild of the United States and the National Book Foundation.
