The Dutch authorities decided not to expel two Russian citizens who knew the details of how a Buk missile hit a civilian plane in the conflict zone in Ukraine. The national edition Volkskrant wrote about it.
According to him, the family received asylum in the kingdom, but this was preceded by several refusals.
At the same time, the couple had applied for asylum since 2016 and faced deportation. The Dutch authorities, as originally stated, explained the tough decision by the fact that the Russians did not share with them information about the crash of the Malaysian liner.
On July 17, 2014, a Malaysia Airlines passenger Boeing-777 crashed in Donbass, all 298 people on board were killed. The plane was flying MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. According to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), a missile from a Buk air defense missile system, which arrived at the Donbass militia from the Russian Federation, hit the side.
An indictment against the defendants – three Russians, including the first militia commander Igor Strelkov, and a Ukrainian – was read in The Hague this week. The court demanded life imprisonment for all. Russia denies any involvement in the plane crash in the war zone.
