The Minister of Health points out that a community contagion by omicron cannot yet be declared

There are 22 cases of omicron detected in the country.

Although in Ecuador there are 22 cases per omicron and doctors believe that there is already a community contagion, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, has indicated this Thursday that a community contagion can not yet be declared by this variant.

Of the total number of cases detected in the country, 19 are in Guayas and correspond to people who had contact with an infected woman.

Garzón indicated that the cases detected in this province correspond to transmissions made by a zero patient. He said that when a contagion is no longer found from a primary contact, one can speak of community contagion.

The minister insisted that the ministry relies on scientific evidence to determine the contagion.

Ecuador is among the countries that are trying to stop the advance of the omicron variant, which has a more contagious power and presents other types of symptoms than the delta.

Ecuador will not achieve herd immunity even if the Government meets the vaccination goal, experts say

To try to have a larger immunized population, Ecuador declared vaccination mandatory on Thursday.

As of this December 23, the measure to require the vaccination card in shopping centers and other spaces came into effect. (I)
