The Ministry of Education investigates the case of a woman who punished students with a belt at the Chimborazo campus

The person who is subject to investigation has been transferred to administrative tasks outside of educational institutions.

In a short video recorded in the courtyard of a campus, a woman is seen reprimanding a group of students with a belt. After saying a few words and with the strap in hand, she gives the students two blows on the buttocks.

The minors bow to the ground and one by one passes to receive the punishment. In the scene, a group of students is seen in the courtyard, while adult voices are heard behind the person who captures the video.

Media from the province of Chimborazo indicated that the incident was reported in a campus in the community of Gulag, in the Alausí canton. The Chimborazo Ombudsman’s Office asked the Education District for a report on this event.

Through a statement, the Ministry of Education described the episode as “an unacceptable act of physical violence” and announced that they had activated the protocols for action in cases of violence.

“The person who is subject to investigation has been transferred to administrative tasks outside of educational institutions,” said that portfolio.

It is unknown if the person involved is a teacher or the principal of the campus.

The Ministry said that in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Children’s Rights, the Constitution, the Organic Code for Children and Adolescents, it reiterates its commitment to protect and guarantee these rights. (I)
