FC Dynamo St. Petersburg Sports Director Makarov: Petrovsky Stadium is a prayerful place that needs to be restarted

The former symbol of Russian football, the Petrovsky stadium in St. Petersburg is in a deplorable state and requires reconstruction. Experts discussed the situation with the object at a round table in Rosbalt dedicated to the results of the football year 2021.

“The stadium requires reconstruction, its condition hinders the development of football in our city. It is important to bet on functionality – no one will invest a single ruble, not knowing if they will return. But the prayed-for football place needs to be restarted, to think about how to make it accessible to all football teams in St. Petersburg, ”said Alexander Makarov, sports director of the Dynamo St. Petersburg football club.

Roman Nedobezhkov, ex-development director of FC Dynamo St. Petersburg, stressed that the city needs a second full-fledged stadium to host matches.

“Do not forget that there is a spare field for the FNL-2 matches. If the stadium is gone, where will they play? ” – asked Nedobiezhkov.

Sports commentator Alexei Menshov suggested creating a museum of Leningrad football at Petrovsky in order to remind Petersburgers that “the city is not alive with Zenith alone.”

Valentina Golovacheva, CEO of a marketing agency, one of the organizers of the World of Football festival, summed up that a sports life should emerge at the Petrovsky stadium and a developed public space should appear.

“In the meantime, it is collapsing, and the Property Control Committee says that about 84 million rubles a year is spent on its maintenance,” Golovacheva said.

The result of the meeting will be the creation of an appeal to government agencies with a proposal to use Petrovsky for the benefit of the city.

“How exactly, we must decide everything together, before it’s too late and the legendary stadium is not reduced to ashes,” summed up Igor Shumilin, head of a sports PR agency, football fan.

Let us remind you that in 2025 the Petrovsky stadium will celebrate its 100th anniversary. On July 5, 1925, the first football match took place between the national team of Leningrad and the national team of Kharkov. In 1980, the stadium functioned as a training ground for football teams taking part in the Olympic tournament. In 2018, “Petrovsky” became a training base for the teams holding the matches of the world championship in St. Petersburg
