Putin does not want to “scold” the Bank of Russia for raising interest rates, otherwise “it can be like in Turkey” – Rosbalt

Russian President Vladimir Putin considers it justified to raise the key rate of the Bank of Russia in the fight against high inflation, since if this is not done, the “Turkish” scenario may repeat itself in the country. He stated this today during a large press conference.

“I know the real sector’s dissatisfaction with the rate hike, but if we don’t do this, then we can have like in Turkey (where the lira is depreciating” – ed.), ”The head of state said.

In his opinion, the volume of lending in Russia does not fall, despite the growth of the key rate, and one can “scold” the regulator for raising rates, as representatives of the real sector do not under the camera, but at meetings with the president, but if you do not raise rates, then will get worse.

Putin assured that he did not interfere “in the work of the Central Bank”, but assessed “it positively.” “Basically, we find a middle ground. What threats are there? Growth restriction. The goal is 4.4-4.5 percent growth. An increase in rates reduces opportunities, but we do not see this yet, ”the president said.

Moreover, he recalled that in the leading countries of the world, regulators launched a “printing press”, and this led to an acceleration of inflation and an increase in budget deficits.

At the same time, Putin is convinced, the Russian government helps all affected industries, including fitness clubs, catering, cultural facilities, with preferential loans and installments, direct support related to the preservation of jobs.

Recall that today, Russian President Vladimir Putin is already holding a large annual press conference at the 17th. As previously indicated by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, 507 media employees were accredited for the event, including media foreign agents, who will be able to freely ask questions to the president. We add that Putin first tested the format of communication with journalists 20 years ago – in 2001.
