The Russian law enforcement system technically lags behind Western countries by 20 years, which is why cybercrime is on the rise in the country. Igor Bederov, the founder of the Internet-search company, said this in an interview with a Rosbalt correspondent, commenting on the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on crimes in the IT sphere.
“The law enforcement agencies do not have a sufficient number of specialists who would work with ICT crimes. There are no methods, software products that would help solve cases. The crime rate is growing, the detection rate is decreasing, ”Bederov noted.
The specialist recalled that a 75% increase in cybercrime is recorded in Russia, but official statistics should not be trusted.
“The statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs include acts as a result of which the damage amounted to more than 5 thousand rubles. And only those for which there were applications from citizens. If we take all the offenses and the real number of victims, there will be at least three times more, ”the expert emphasized.
With reference to bank data, Bederov said that the number of illegal write-offs from Russian cards per year reaches a million – an average of 13,700 rubles per write-off. Judging by these figures, the attackers have enriched themselves by 14 billion rubles in a year.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry released statistics on cybercrime in the country. So, for 10 months of this year, every fourth crime in Russia was committed using IT technologies. In total, 494.1 thousand IT crimes were committed in the country for 11 months. Read more about the most popular fraudulent schemes on Rosbalt in the near future.
