Lithuania urged NATO not to discuss Russian security proposals

NATO countries should not start negotiations with Russia on the Kremlin’s proposals on mutual guarantees of security in Europe, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielyus Landsbergis said in an interview with the Times.

According to the diplomat, “the only possible negotiations are about the possibility of strengthening security guarantees in the region, which starts from the Black Sea in Romania and reaches Estonia.” In addition, the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry stressed the need to strengthen the forces of NATO countries in the region and provide military assistance to Ukraine.

Landsbergis expressed confidence that Russia is allegedly planning an “attack” on Ukraine in the coming months. In his opinion, this could “change the security situation in the entire region.” “All the evidence indicates that the intention is real, and we need to prepare for this,” the diplomat emphasized.

Recall that on December 15, Moscow handed over to Washington draft agreements on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of Russia and the NATO countries.
