WHO opposes compulsory vaccination of children against coronavirus

The World Health Organization believes that there is no need for a general vaccination of children and adolescents against coronavirus, since not all countries have yet vaccinated risk groups. This statement was made following a meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE).

Among children and adolescents, “the burden of serious illness is low”, the statement said. At the same time, “high vaccination coverage among the groups most at risk of serious illness has not yet been achieved in all countries”.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that the vaccination against coronavirus for adolescents was included in the Russian national calendar of preventive vaccinations. However, adolescents 12-17 years old will be vaccinated against covid only upon written application. Parents of children 12-14 years old inclusive will have to give voluntary informed consent for vaccination, and adolescents from 15 to 17 years old can give such consent independently.
