“Kommersant”: Ex-head of the Penza region Belozertsev was charged with illegal possession of a pistol

The Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation opened a new criminal case against the former governor of the Penza region, Ivan Belozertsev, who is now under investigation for a bribery case.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the matter concerns the illegal acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition: a few months ago, during a search in the Penza administration, a Makarov pistol (PM) with a sawn-off number was found, as well as 96 cartridges for it.

We will also remind that on November 15 it became known that Belozertsev was extended until February 20, 2022, the arrest in the case of bribery. According to the investigation, he received bribes through intermediaries in the form of money and other valuables in the amount of more than 31 million rubles from the head of the Biotech group of pharmaceutical companies Boris Shpigel and his wife, as well as the director of OJSC Pharmacy, Anton Koloskov.

And on December 9, the head of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Combating Corruption (GUEBiPK) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Lieutenant General Andrei Kurnosenko, told TASS that the criminal case of bribery against Belozertsev and Spiegel is connected, in particular, with the provision of competitive advantages at auctions aimed at fighting with coronavirus.
