The Kremlin argued with the United States, where they said that Russia violates WTO rules due to import substitution

Russia does not violate the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) due to the policy of import substitution and restrictions on imports of agricultural products. This, as reported by “Kommersant”, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“As for the WTO, we do not agree with this point of view. Russia does not violate anything in this area, “he said.

Earlier, the United States said that Russia in 2021 continued to backtrack from the obligations it assumed upon joining the WTO. Russia was accused of restricting imports of agricultural products and the policy of import substitution, as well as “forced localization of production” in industry.

We add that the European Union has approved sanctions against eight Russians and three legal entities associated with PMC Wagner. Restrictive measures were introduced for actions in Syria, Libya and Ukraine and imply the freezing of assets in Western countries, as well as a ban on travel to EU countries.

In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended until 2022 the food embargo on the import of products into Russia from countries that have imposed or supported anti-Russian sanctions.
