The Ministry of Health urged citizens to comply with the reinforcements to prevent more patients from being infected with the new omicron variant
The booster of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine will be applied five months after the second dose for those who accessed formulas outside the country, such as those of Covishield, Moderna, Novavax, Janssen, Sputnik, Sinopharm, among others. They will receive boosters from AstraZeneca and Pfizer five months after the second dose.
This was announced by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in a statement. He said that only those who received doses of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) should come two months after the application.
Given the confirmation of the 22 cases identified with the omicron variant and with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Ximena Garzón, Minister of Public Health, stressed that this new variant is extremely contagious and that the doses of reinforcement become an additional benefit for individual and family protection.
From this Wednesday, the time to apply booster doses to people over 60 years of age is reduced to five months
Last Tuesday, the Ministry of Health confirmed another 19 infected with this variant in Guayas. These new cases correspond to people who were in contact with one of the positive patients identified last week in Guayaquil. That person participated in a social gathering, although he did not travel abroad.
“All the people are with mild symptoms and were isolated since they were identified as contacts of the primary case,” the Ministry indicated.
The vaccination plan led by the MSP enabled inoculation points in 1,900 health centers. These establishments are closer to the population and are the nexus for the promotion and prevention of diseases. In addition, there are other sites available, such as sports centers, arenas, and shopping centers.
That is why the Guayaquil Emergency Operations Committee (cantonal COE) resolved that today, December 22, the vaccination card with the two complete doses or the result of the PCR or antigen test (negative) will be requested to enter the Massive public shows, to events or acts in hotels, event rooms, convention centers, and also in theaters and cinemas.
The measure, which began today, will be extended for 60 days on a preliminary basis. After that, its continuity will be evaluated, according to municipal officials. (I)
