Beeline founder and philanthropist Dmitry Zimin died in Switzerland

Dmitry Zimin, a businessman, radio scientist, philanthropist, founder and honorary president of VimpelCom (Beeline trademark), has died at the age of 88. This was announced on Facebook by his son Boris Zimin.

Recall that Zimin was born on April 28, 1933 in Moscow, he is a descendant of the Old Believer merchant family Zimin. In 1957 he graduated from the faculty of radio electronics of aircraft of the Moscow Aviation Institute, first he worked at the Moscow Aviation Institute, since 1962 – at the closed Radio Engineering Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he defended his Ph.D. and doctoral dissertations and held leading positions.

In 1992 he participated in the creation of the joint stock company Vympel-Communications and became the president and CEO of the company. In May 2019, Zimin left the post of general director and became the honorary president of VimpelCom.

In 2002, Zimin founded and headed the Dynasty Foundation (included in the register of foreign agents), which was engaged in supporting and promoting Russian fundamental science. In 2008, the foundation established a prize. in the field of popular science literature “Enlightener”.

In early 2014, Zimin became the first laureate of the new Ministry of Education and Science Prize “For Loyalty to Science.” In May 2015, the Ministry of Justice included the Dynasty Foundation in the register of foreign non-profit organizations, and soon Zimin left Russia.
