It became known when “omicron” will replace “delta” in Russia

Immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov made a prediction as to when omicron could become the main strain of coronavirus in Russia, displacing the delta.

In his opinion, this will not happen overnight, but gradually. Moreover, according to the immunologist, first, the new strain will begin to infect residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg. “Most likely, it will become the main strain in these cities by the end of this year. Then there will be large cities with a population of over one million, then there will be the eastern part of the country, that is, Siberia, the Far East, “Kryuchkov told Moscow 24.

The specialist recalled that the omicron was identified in Russia in early December. According to the physician, the new type of covid will need “about 2–2.5 months” to displace the “delta”.

Earlier, Kryuchkov named those who are most likely to get sick with coronavirus, including the omicron strain. Recall that, according to the deputy head of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Viktor Fisenko, almost 30 people in Russia have been infected with omicron today.
