The most ambitious exhibit, which took the central place in the exposition, was the Christmas nativity scene, made using cotton toy technology by the masters of the Handmade Gallery “Ligovsky, 65″ (project of the St. Petersburg Revival Fund). Artist and volunteer Svetlana Krasnova said that when creating the den and its multi-figured composition, special attention was paid to details: “Here, in addition to the traditional characters – Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary, the Child Christ and the Three Magi – there are also heroes inspired by our imagination: the Arab drover camels and an Israeli shepherd cooking lentil stew on a fire, the prototype of Santa Claus is a shepherd carrying a basket of tangerines as a gift, and even the inhabitants of the desert fauna – a snake, a gecko and a jerboa. ” Above the nativity scene shines a mandatory attribute – the Christmas star, in this case the Moravian (or Gangut). When creating it, the artists were assisted by friends from the Russian-German Meeting Center.

Paintings for the exhibition were provided by the artist from Tver Alexandra Smirnova. Alexandra works in the naive genre and has a bright and recognizable style. Her works are a window to a kind, fairy-tale world filled with angels, archangels and magical creatures.

Also on display are handmade dolls. “A doll is an amazing synthesis of many arts. To make a good doll, it is necessary to master the technique of sculpture, and the modeling of clothes, and the art of a hairdresser and make-up artist, ”the artist Anna Khlyzova told Rosbalt. “Each of my works has its own personality, its own character, its own story, and a lot of love and work has been invested in each one.”

The New Year and the special atmosphere inherent in this holiday are impossible without its main symbol – a decorated Christmas tree. With the help of the participants of the project “Under the Christmas” star, the festive atmosphere was doubled – the hall was decorated with two festive trees at once.

And each of them became a real travel in time. One, created by the masters of the gallery “Ligovsky 65” – in the pre-revolutionary years. And the other was decorated with paper toys made by the teacher of school number 100 Tatyana Volkova together with her students, based on the 1935 models from the Pedagogical Museum. It was then that the New Year, banned in Russia after the October Revolution, was returned to the people – as a holiday of childhood.

For the exhibition, decorations and gifts were recreated that were given to children and adults before the revolution. “Boys were given guns, toy soldiers, books, girls – handicraft kits, dolls, toy dishes. Of course, sweets and chocolates, and for little ones – lollipops, and chocolates – for older children, “said artist Marina Moiseeva from the St. Petersburg Renaissance Fund.

Craftsmanship often becomes high art through craftsmanship. Galina Gusarova, an artist whose personal exhibition was held in the mArs art space in October 2019, provided for the exposition author’s Christmas tree decorations made in the technique of old gold embroidery, which has become modern in the hands of a true master.

(conducted by the Russian Museum and the Writers’ Union of St. Petersburg) especially for this project, and the performance of songs with guitar accompaniment.
