Former President of Moldova Dodon believes that the accusations addressed to him are a “smokescreen”

Former President of Moldova Igor Dodon, who held this post in 2016–2020, was summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the republic for interrogation in the case of the state-owned company Energocom. Dodon himself, who is on a short-term trip abroad, assures that the summons to the prosecutor’s office is an attempt to divert the attention of the republic’s population from the pressing problems in the country, especially since the matter concerns the investigation of the 13-year-old events. A few days earlier, he reported that there was a need for a massive protest movement in the country, and urged his compatriots to take to the streets.

The investigation reports that at the beginning of 2008, Energocom’s management, acting in collusion with employees of the Ministry of Economy, the National Energy Regulatory Agency and several foreign citizens, unreasonably overstated the purchase price of electricity in order to appropriate the difference. One of the participants in this scheme was Dodon, who at that time was the Minister of Economy.

The preliminary damage caused by accomplices is estimated at approximately $ 12 million.

The ex-president assures that he did not receive a summons to the prosecutor’s office, but is ready to appear to testify if the summons for interrogation is confirmed.
