Prosecutor’s Office investigates the death of a model in Guayaquil and hopes to take the version of her boyfriend

An investigation was opened for the crime of murder; the family of the deceased is requesting several expert reports and the exhumation of the body.

The death of Naomi Arcentales Sabando, 23, is being investigated by the Guayas Prosecutor’s Office. The young woman was found dead on the night of December 12 in an apartment on the 13th floor of a building that also houses a five-star hotel in the Barbasquillo citadel, an area of high added value located in the west of Manta.

Since the death of the model, the case has attracted attention due to a series of elements that have appeared. Initially it was considered as a presumed suicide, but the family has asked to carry out some errands.

Arcentales was a partner of Juan Carlos I., a prosecutor from El Carmen, Manabí, who was suspended by the Council of the Judiciary, while possible disciplinary infractions are being investigated.

President Guillermo Lasso asked for clarification on how the young woman who lived with her boyfriend died.

Last week the authorities affirmed that she had taken her own life and the young woman was buried, but the Arcentales family has questioned the conduct of the State Attorney General’s Office, of the Police. They assure that it was not suicide, so they ask that the body be exhumed for a new autopsy.

In addition, this weekend some chats and a video of the abuse Naomi received went viral.

Investigative process for the death of a young Manabi will be held in Guayaquil, according to the family’s lawyer

Luiggi García, a lawyer for Naomi’s family, explained that the previous investigation that began in Guayas is for the crime of murder and that in this case protocols are being applied to investigate deaths due to gender issues, such as femicide.

García insists on the exhumation of the body and the request for new expertise.

“They are going to ask for many procedures, human identity tests, video and voice collation,” said the lawyer, who clarifies that the autopsy reveals the cause of death, but does not confirm whether she committed suicide or not.

Regarding the videos and chats that circulated this weekend, García said that they were already part of the investigation opened by the prosecutor María Libanesa Gálvez Morales, who is now handling the case in Guayaquil and who this Tuesday will travel to Manta to take the boyfriend’s version from Naomi.

“Tomorrow we have the version of Juan Carlos I., the prosecutor of El Carmen. In such a way, tomorrow we will know if he is going to face the country and if he is going to contribute the elements, “said the lawyer, who clarifies that Juan Carlos I. has no arrest warrant or precautionary measures.

Regarding the sexual assault reported by the deceased before her death, lawyer Luiggi García explained that the rape occurred on August 20 last and that the case is being investigated by the Manabí Prosecutor’s Office for Gender Violence.

García said that the Prosecutor’s Office last week requested the formulation of charges against the two citizens suspected of having raped Naomi and that the hearing was postponed to January 5 at the request of the defendants because they requested time to prepare the defense.

“They appeared for the investigation, but for now they do not have precautionary measures, they can leave,” said the lawyer for the Arcentales.

He asks that the issue be handled with transparency and objectivity so that Naomi’s case does not become one more figure of the multiple cases of gender violence in Ecuador.

In addition, he expressed that the mother of the deceased came to the room and found her daughter almost sitting on the bed, that she was not in suspension and that a cable that was connected to the television was used.

Sara Sabando, mother of Arcentales, indicated that after the death of her daughter she continues to receive messages from friends of her first-born in which screenshots are shown in which Arcentales allegedly complains of abuse allegedly from her partner.

Naomi’s partner, through their social media accounts, requested that their grief be respected and that erroneous information not be disclosed in this case. (I)
