Russia expels two employees of the German embassy. This is a response to a similar move by Berlin, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is noted that the German ambassador to Moscow Geza Andreas von Geir was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday. He was told that two diplomatic employees of the German Embassy in Russia had been declared persona non grata. “As a symmetrical response to the aforementioned unfriendly decision of the FRG government,” the Foreign Ministry said. The ambassador was also informed that Moscow will invariably adequately respond in a proportionate manner to any potential confrontational attacks by Berlin.
We will remind that the German Foreign Ministry last week declared two employees of the Russian embassy persona non grata in connection with the verdict in the murder case in the Tiergarten, for which the court in Berlin on December 15 sentenced the Russian citizen Vadim Krasikov to life imprisonment. He arrived in Berlin with forged documents and on August 23, 2019, shot Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in the Tiergarten park. The court ruled that the Russian acted on orders from the Russian authorities and was an employee of the state security services. The Kremlin said that Moscow strongly disagrees with the conclusion made by the Berlin court as part of the investigation into Khangoshvili’s murder.
