Russian citizen Sophia Sapega, who was arrested on May 23 this year together with the founder of the opposition Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich, has been charged. Earlier it was announced that on the aggregate charges she faces six years in prison.

The accused got acquainted with the materials of the criminal case in accordance with the established procedure. The preventive measure remains the same – house arrest.

Sophia Sapega, a political prisoner and friend of Roman Protasevich, flew with him from Athens to Vilnius on a Ryanair plane, which was “grounded” by the Belarusian authorities in Minsk. Initially, she was detained for only 72 hours as a suspect “of committing, in the period from August to September 2020, crimes under several articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus. Although she confessed to running a Telegram channel that disseminated personal data of Belarusian security officials, the girls close to her are sure that she was not involved in politics and did not participate in protests.
