Famous film director, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Andrei Malyukov died on December 19 from coronavirus. He was 73 years old. Malyukov’s death was reported on Facebook by his cousin, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Natalya Bondarchuk, daughter of director Sergei Bondarchuk and actress Inna Makarova.
“My beloved cousin, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, film director, screenwriter, producer Andrei Malyukov, has passed away,” she wrote. Bondarchuk clarified that her mother Inna Makarova was the sister of Nina Makarova, the mother of Andrei Malyukov. He and Malyukov have a common grandmother – the Siberian writer Anna German, she raised Natalia and Andrei.
Bondarchuk added that recently Malyukov was seriously ill, but the cause of his death was a covid.
Recall that Malyukov began his film career as an assistant director Yuri Ozerov on the set of the epic “Liberation”. In 1974, he became famous for his debut film In the Special Spotlight. In 1981, Malyukov shot the first disaster film in the USSR, “The 34th Speedy”. Other well-known films by Malyukov include “We are from the Future”, “Match”, as well as the series “Special Forces”, “Saboteur”, “Storm Gates”, “Escape” (first season), “Lost”.
