The head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine ruled out the possibility of autonomy of the DPR and LPR

The granting of autonomy to the “occupied territories” of Ukraine is out of the question, said the head of the country’s defense ministry, Oleksiy Reznikov.

He stressed that the conflict can only be resolved through diplomacy, the ministry’s press service reported.

“We clearly understand that we will not make any concessions if it will threaten our territorial integrity or sovereignty … If this is an ultimatum from the Kremlin that we should get another federal district or autonomy that they dream of, this is impossible,” said the minister.

According to Reznikov, Kiev insists on the complete disarmament of the DPR and LPR, demilitarization and the introduction of Ukrainian law enforcement officers there. After these steps, preparation for local elections “according to OSCE standards” is possible.

We add that in April the German edition of the Suddeutsche Zeitung wrote that Donbass is likely to become part of the Russian Federation. This is allegedly indicated by the fact that since 2019, President Vladimir Putin “handed out hundreds of thousands of Russian passports on the territory of the DPR and LPR, abolished the Ukrainian language as the state language and deprived Ukraine of real estate.”
