Ecuador reversed its decision to supply old Russian equipment to the United States

Ecuador will not supply old Russian equipment to the United States. According to RIA Novosti, the Russian Ambassador to Ecuador, Vladimir Sprinchan, announced that the authorities had canceled the previously adopted decision following a meeting with the President of the Republic.

As the ambassador explained, at the meeting the Ecuadorian side confirmed its neutral status, as well as its position “not to send weapons and ammunition to hot zones, but to contribute to the resolution of conflicts peacefully, through diplomatic instruments.”

Answering the question whether this means that Quito will not transfer Russian equipment to the United States, the diplomat said: “yes.”

Let us recall that on January 10, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced that he had decided to transfer old Russian and Ukrainian-made equipment to the United States. In return, Washington was going to send new equipment worth $200 million to the republic. Moscow regarded the decision of the Ecuadorian authorities as unfriendly, but Noboa argued that the transferred equipment was “scrap metal.”

“I don’t know if this can be called demarches, but all this was brought to the attention of the Ecuadorian side with references to the relevant points of agreements and agreements,” noted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at the time. She also emphasized that these actions violate international obligations and could negatively affect relations between the two countries.

Washington intended to transfer the equipment received from Ecuador to Kyiv.
