Veterinarian Shelyakov spoke about the reasons for the high number of brucellosis diseases in the North Caucasus

In Russia, the number of cases of brucellosis is increasing. It is an infectious disease that is transmitted from animals such as sheep, cows and pigs.

According to Rosstat, 467 cases of infection were detected in 2022, which is almost double the number last year. The highest rates of brucellosis are observed in the North Caucasus and the Republic of Dagestan, where almost all cases of the disease were found, writes ridus.ru.

Experts note that these regions traditionally face epidemics of brucellosis. Veterinarian Mikhail Shelyakov explained the reasons for this phenomenon.

According to him, the high number of diseases is associated with the insufficient quality of anti-epizootic veterinary measures. He noted that this is not due to the lack of professionalism of veterinarians, but rather due to insufficient control by the relevant authorities.

The main source of brucellosis is cattle. Agriculture is very developed in the North Caucasus, but local farmers do not implement the necessary veterinary measures. Also, these regions have low population density and a habit of selling everything to each other, so disease control is not particularly important.

However, this approach can have tragic consequences: the disease can quickly spread to other regions of Russia. Therefore, it is important to strengthen veterinary control in these regions and take measures to identify cases of infection.

Brucellosis can occur without symptoms or with symptoms that are easily confused with a cold. However, it is a serious infectious disease that can lead to paralysis, meningoencephalitis, sensorineural deafness and even death.

To protect yourself from brucellosis, it is important to cook meat properly and not leave it undercooked or undercooked. It is also recommended to boil raw milk.
