Unripe green bananas are much healthier for the digestive system than ripe ones. Green bananas have more fiber and less bloating sugars. Leukocyanidin is also present, which contributes to the development of the gastric mucosa and reduces the feeling of heartburn, Ph.D., gastroenterologist, nutritionist Alena Potasheva told Facebook subscribers.
In general, bananas are very rich in a wide variety of useful substances – in one average banana there is 1/5 of the daily dose of vitamin B6, a good portion of vitamin C and carotenoids. It is also very high in magnesium, potassium and manganese, which are essential for healthy heart function. Eating bananas reduces oxidative stress and lowers harmful very low-density lipids in the blood.
Banana is full of various dietary fiber, which is the key to gut health, and has the properties of a prebiotic that helps maintain the number of beneficial bacteria.
Ripe bananas are a source of various carbohydrates: saarose, fructose, glucose in combination with stabilized starch gives fast and long-lasting satiety.
And also – this is an excellent portion of biogenic amines (“mood hormones”) – serotonin and dopamine. Although recent research suggests that the reason for this is not so much the abundance of tryptophan in bananas, but rather a unique combination of it and other antioxidants, the nutritionist notes.
