On Saturday afternoon, the Ministry of Public Health announced the third confirmed case of COVID-19 with the omicron variant in the country. This is a patient domiciled in Quito who arrived from the United Kingdom in mid-December.
The previous cases were reported on Tuesday from an engineer who arrived from South Africa and on the last Friday from a 48-year-old woman who resides in Guayaquil who was infected at a social event. None of the three are related to each other.

This third case had its complete vaccination schedule in addition to the booster dose, the Ministry indicated that it was isolated as well as its direct contacts.
In addition to the fact that in the country there are two ‘clusters’ (groups in epidemiological surveillance) identified according to the National Institute for Public Health Research (INSPI). One was located in Pichincha and another in Guayas.
