Cybersecurity expert Alexander Dvoryansky warns about the risk of using Wi-Fi in cafes, shops and shopping centers. He notes that data encryption in such public places often leaves much to be desired due to insufficient care by companies and providers.
According to the expert, such networks can be accessible to everyone and are susceptible to hacking. In addition, there is no information about the type of encryption and the volume of transmitted traffic, Izvestia writes.
If you are nevertheless forced to connect to such a “suspicious network,” it is not recommended to enter your contact information during authorization or transmit confidential information.
Dvoryansky advises not to open financial and banking applications, as well as social networks when using such networks, so as not to put your data at risk. It warns that sophisticated fraudsters can access your credentials through mobile banking apps.
However, the expert notes that you should not worry about public government Wi-Fi networks, such as in the subway, at bus stops, in public transport and government institutions. In his opinion, technical safety in such places is implemented at a high level.
