The Yas Marina Circuit, which traditionally hosts the final Formula 1 race, has completed the 2023/24 Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) season. Russian pilot Vladislav Lomko competed in three of the five stages, and it was the final race – the second 4 Hours of Abu Dhabi – that brought his crew the best result.
At the start, the Russian crew was again unlucky. Proton Competition’s Paul-Loupe Chatin made a mistake in turn two and caused a multi-car pileup. Among them was the CoolRacing prototype No. 47 – Lorenzo Fluxe, who started the race, had only to go to the pits for a new rear wing.
The Spaniard returned to the track last in his class and had to make up for it, but 40 minutes after the start a major accident occurred: the same Brown could not hold the Oreca 07 prototype in a turn and crashed into Setiawan Santoso in the Porsche 911 GT3 R of the EBM team. The cars that had grappled with each other flew into the barrier at high speed; it took more than an hour to restore the barriers.
After the restart, Alexandre Coigny took the wheel of the Cool Racing crew car No. 47, and Vladislav Lomko replaced the Swiss a little over an hour before the finish. All three pilots performed at the highest level and did not make major mistakes, but it was no longer possible to rise above tenth place after the incident at the start.
The Algarve Pro Racing No. 25 crew chalked up victory in the season finale – its drivers Chris McMurry, Freddie Tomlinson and Toby Sowery managed to cover the distance with fewer pit stops than their rivals. Ian Loggi, Alejandro Garcia and Ferdinand Habsburg of Nielsen Racing finished second on the podium, while George Roda, Julien Andlauer and René Binder of Proton Competition finished third.
In the LMP3 standings, Bretton Racing’s Dan Skocdopola, Julien Gerbi and Stephan Michnia had no equal, while in the GT standings, Gabriel Rindone, Brendon Leitch and Marco Mapelli took the lead in the Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
The champion at the end of the season of the Asian Le Mans Series was the crew of CrowdStrike Racing by APR No. 4, which, despite finishing outside the top 6, remained ahead of the crew of the 99 Racing team No. 99 in the standings. In the LMP3 standings, the first place went to Lomko’s comrades according to the Cool Racing team – crew No. 17, which included Alexander Bukhantsov, became the strongest. In GT, the championship title was won by Pure Rxcing, which is also represented by the Belarusian athlete Alexey Malykhin.
