Hundreds of people came to the Central University Coliseum to be vaccinated. Several were looking for the third booster dose.
The coliseum of the Central University of Ecuador, in Quito, looked full this morning, as hundreds of people came to the site seeking to participate in the new vaccination day carried out by the Ministry of Public Health. The university coliseum is one of the 500 vaccination centers nationwide that have been installed against the coronavirus. This Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December a massive inoculation day, called Vacunatón, is carried out from 08:00 to 16:00.
José Merizalde, 70, came to the university coliseum to participate in the second Vaccination. He said he waited 30 minutes at the scene and was given the third dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
In this framework, the coordinator of said vaccination center, Ramiro López, stated that on this day the first and second doses of Sinovac will be applied to children from 6 to 11 years old, and the first and second doses of Pfizer for young people from 12 to 17. People with immune diseases and cancer are also receiving Pfizer, and finally, the general population that corresponds to the third dose is being inoculated with AstraZeneca.
In addition, López pointed out that for this day it is estimated to vaccinate about 2,000 people only in that center, since there are eight vaccination posts in this place and this makes the process more agile.

Regarding the information issued by the Ministry of Health, in Zone 5, which corresponds to Guayas (with the exception of the Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón cantons), Los Ríos, Santa Elena, Bolívar and Galapagos, there will be 73 sites for its administration .
In these localities, the placement of the doses is essential, since there is still pending coverage. Until Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in Los Ríos only 70.96% of the population between 18 and 24 years of age was fully vaccinated. While the coverage of adolescents from 12 to 17 years old reached 39.13%.
The same is observed in Bolívar, where 75.20% was reached in the range of 18 to 24 years. And adolescents, 59.62%. The data are contained in the vaccinometer, a digital tool to verify the progress of immunization.
Furthermore, the proliferation of new ‘concern’ variants is prevented. Among them, omicron and delta. In Ecuador, two cases of the first mutation had been identified in Pichincha and Guayas, until Friday, December 17
