Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman won a lawsuit against his ex-housekeeper Dominika Kozlik, who performed work duties at his London residence Athlone House.
The defendant was unable to transfer maternity payments to Kozlik due to British sanctions that blocked his accounts, RTVI writes with reference to The Telegraph.
Kozlik began working at the residence in March 2021 and took maternity leave in November. The businessman had to pay her monthly £1.5 thousand ($1.9 thousand). However, due to the blocking of accounts, he was unable to carry out this.
When Kozlik contacted her manager about the lack of payments, she was told that the delay was due to the business being under sanctions and waiting to receive a license to continue operating. The housekeeper was fired from the residence in June 2022.
The victim filed a lawsuit against her former employer on charges of unfair termination of an employment contract due to the expectation of a child, discrimination and contradiction of the terms of the contract. According to the court’s decision, Kozlik became a “victim of the circumstances” and admitted that payments to her would be considered an offense in connection with the sanctions imposed.
As noted in the article, Kozlik was aware that her ex-employer could not transfer money to her without breaking the law.
