The State Duma is working on adopting amendments to the law on “undesirable organizations” to prohibit the work of foreign formations with state participation in the Russian Federation, Kommersant reports, citing the head of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev. Currently, the law regulates the activities of only non-governmental organizations.
According to Piskarev, the work of some government agencies in foreign countries can distabilize the situation inside Russia, especially before the presidential elections in March of this year. The deputy is confident that foreign states are studying the Russian political situation in detail and are preparing “agents of influence” to change the course of the election campaign, as well as incite nationalist sentiments. According to Piskarev, the bill on “undesirable organizations” needs to be improved in order to strengthen state security.
Let us remind you that for interaction and cooperation with undesirable organizations there is administrative (Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and criminal (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) liability. The maximum criminal penalty is five years in prison.
